Latin American Revolutions Project.

Dom Pedro achieved independence for Portugal and Brazil. He was the Son of prince, becomming king, John VI and Carlota Joaquina, daughter of Charles IV of Spain. Pedro was one of two children. He was born on October 12, 1798. He enjoyed the military life and was a great horseman. Later on in his year he wrote music and composed them too. In 1822, creoles demanded independence and signed a petition asking Pedro to rule Brazil. Independence was achieved by standing at the Ipiranga river, taking off his blue and white portuguise patch and screaming "independence or death!" On October 12, 1822 he was named emperor of Brazil. Dom Pedro's ruling ended in 1889 when brazilians Over threw pedro and declared their country and rebulic.
